I have recently had surgery (pelvic organ prolapse). I am currently 76 years old. My doctor prescribed PREMARIN VAGINAL cream(topical) to be applied once a week. He said I would need to apply this for the rest of my life. His thought on this is that by applying the cream it will keep the walls of the vagina strong and also prevent any mesh erosions. He also said this would prevent any chances of the prolapse to occur again. My concern is that his cream has a great deal of side effects and I am very concerned about this especially at my age. One of the side effects is cancer. I have three sisters and a brother who have died of colan, cervical and ovarian cancer. I also have two sisters that were diagnosed in their seventies with breast cancer. Please advise on the best course of action for my concerns. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.
