Cooling Products

Night sweats and hot flashes can have a significant negative impact on a woman’s quality of life. By disturbing sleep and causing insomnia, nighttime episodes foster fatigue, irritability and an inability to concentrate. Fortunately, there are some innovative products that may help you cope with overheating.

Moisture Wicking Sleepware
Several companies make special sleepwear and pillowcases that can help keep you dryer and cooler when you experience night sweats. You may already own other clothes for hot flashes, like workout wear or sport underlayers which you can wear to bed. Cost $30 and up.

Chillow Pillow
This innovative pillow is designed to keep you cool while you sleep. Traditional pillows insulate and hold heat in. The chillow stays at room temperature and draws heat away from you. Cost $30 to $40.

Bed Fan
An unobtrusive, under-the-covers air cooler for your bed. It features a remote control that you keep under the pillow or on your bedside table. Cost about $100.

Be Koool Gel Strips
Adhesive-backed cooling gel strips that can be applied to the back of the neck or chest when needed. The cooling effect is good for up to 5 hours. It’s water-based, has no color or fragrance, is disposable and does not require refrigeration. Cost about $7 for a box of 6 strips.

TheraPause Gel Strips
Similar to Be Koool Gel Strips and available at Walgreens for about $10 for 5 strips.

Ceiling Fans
Try a ceiling fan to keep you cool, especially in your bedroom. If you can get one with a remote control to keep at your beside, even better!
